it seemed like a good idea at the time

i always come up with the greatest ideas.

i heard it from someone, who heard it from someone, who heard it from someones best friends cousins husbands father…

that hula hoops were a good tool for weight loss.

so i googled it – and google said, “why yes bee, this is true”
so if google said so…well it had to be true!!!

so i thought – damn!  i used to be an amazing hula hooping kinda girl when i was like 12…
and i kick everyone’s ass on my wii virtual hula hoop
why don’t i just go buy myself a real hula hoop???

so off i went to walmart and voila – a hula hoop was purchased.

i so totally believed i would look like this:

i am woman enough to admit – that i don’t look anything like this.
not even close.
ask LB…when she gets off the floor…and stops laughing
*ahem*

anyways…i am lucky if i can get that thing to spin around my hips 3 times
i don’t look sexy, or at ease.
i look constipated…
i look like a middle aged woman having a seizure.

that hula hoop challenge on the wii gave me a false sense of super-stardom

i used to be good.
now not so much.

i have resorted to watching “how to” videos on youtube.

and i gotta say – no matter which way you slice it…bee’s got no rhythm.
oy.

i am not gonna give up.  i mean even failing at it has made me break out in a sweat…so that can’t be a bad thing.
man – where is the 12 year old me to teach me a move or 2?
meh – best she stay away – i’d hate to break a hip.

also – in my quest to find the hula hoop – i found me a trampoline.
yes – i bought myself a trampoline.
cause google said it was a kick ass work out.

it is currently in my trunk – in a million pieces.  the box says “some assembly required”

i am not too good with putting things together.  not too sure how much faith i have in myself putting that together.

i mean, this is something i will be jumping on.

it’s bad enough i see clearly how bad of an idea it is to own a trampoline when you are as accident prone as i am…
but what if i don’t put that together correctly???

how do i explain that to the doctor’s at emerg???

maybe when LB can catch her breath and get up off the floor – i’ll ask her to help me.

the bee special

i went down for lunch today.

i’ve written here before that my coworkers will sometimes ask for the “bee special”?

just to keep you in the loop –  a bee special is chicken salad, with cucumbers and swiss cheese.
no bread.
you can substitute the chicken salad for any other salad – like tuna, egg etc

So while i was downstairs today getting my bee special – i went to the fridge where they keep some of their pre-packaged lunches.

Guess what’s new?

the bee special. yep – now you can just grab it from the fridge and go 🙂
i was going to take a picture of it – but there were just too many people around.

would it be going to far if i asked them to actually put that on their little stickers???  “bee special”?
i think the “bee special” has an awesome ring to it.

imagine – people used to make fun of the way i ate – and now they are promoting it.  i ain’t no dummy kids!

oh the things that make my heart happy 🙂

a night on the town

is just what the doctor ordered!!

babe scored some tickets to a concert for last night.

we went to go see Kenny Chesney.  why not!  i mean i am not a country fan, but floor seats, down town Toronto and babe sounds like a fun night.

and it was.  there are youtube videos and pictures to document the insanity – and no – i will not post the videos. lol

we went to a swanky, over the top restaurant before the concert.
what to eat, what to eat???
a burger cost 20 bucks!!!  how could i order a 20 dollar burger and feel ok about throwing away the bun??

so this is what i ordered…

it’s some sort of chicken with “the chefs secret sauce” …there was definitely soy sauce and hot sauce in there…i gotta tell you it was delicious.
mmm mmm good.

see how much i am enjoying it? lol

waaaay over priced, but you know what?  i would go back again.
i mean they had heated toilet seats!!!  heated toilet seats people!!!!
i never ever sit on a public toilet – but how could you not try it out?

as if the washroom wasn’t sweet enough…there is a wall of wine on your way in and out.  um hi, this would be my heaven.

once we were done and asked for the bill – this is what we got:

i would do it all again in a heart beat.  what an awesome night!

planking

can we talk about this for a moment?

the first time i heard the term “planking” was probably about a month ago.
I was driving in to work and listening to the news.
apparently someone was “planking” on their balcony ledge and fell over and died.

wow.
slow down and rewind.

i could not believe what i was hearing.
there was no way someone of sound mind would willingly do an exercise position on the ledge of their balcony.
this person was obviously a sandwich short of a picnic.
i could not wrap my head around it.

oh man i am so not with the times.

I got into the office and googled “planking” because i knew i had to be missing something.
indeed i was.

Wikipedia defines planking as:

Planking or the lying down game is an activity consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. The hands must touch the sides of the body and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the internet is an integral part of the game.[1] Players compete to find the most unusual and original location in which to play.[1] The term planking refers to mimicking a wooden plank.

Many participants of planking since 2011 have photographed the activity on unusual locations such as atop poles, roofs and vehicles, while some “plankers” engage in the activity by planking only their upper body and feet while leaving the back suspended.

I must be old because…well for starters i never knew this existed…and 2, how the heck is this considered fun???

The plank…in my life…is a move i was taught at the gym. this is what my plank looks like:

The plank (also called a front hold, hover, or abdominal bridge) is an isometric core strength exercise that involves maintaining a difficult position for extended periods of time. The most common plank is the front plank which is held in a push-up position with the body’s weight borne on forearms, elbows, and toes.

Many variations exist such as the side plank and the reverse plank. The plank is commonly practiced in Pilates and yoga, and by those training for boxing and related sports.
The plank strengthens the abdominals, back, and shoulders

Imagine my confusion in all of this.

So the other day i am racing out of my building to get to the gym…and my little neighbour friend G shouts out “hey bee!!!  i was just planking it’s so cool, watch”
i turned around and asked him…”honestly, what is that!!”

so he shows me his “planking” – or is it his “plank”  or he “planked” for me
my lord i am so confused.

he looked like a stiff bored.  mission accomplished…way to go.
he was so proud of himself…and me being one to not hurt anyone’s feelings (intentionally) especially a kids….i told him he looked awesome!!!

he then asked me to do one with him.

i’ll do anything to make a kid happy…just about anything…except planking…or plank
god help me.

i’ll save my planks for the gym thank you very much.

no offense to the planking crowd out there.

they say…

laughter is the best medicine…and i would have to agree.

there is nothing better than getting together with friends and laughing.
you know the kind…the one that starts in the pit of your stomach…and makes you cry from joy.
i love belly laughing.
i love crying from laughing so hard.

what can be better for your health?  good friends, lots of laughs…and making memories.

While i was at a bbq, my friend and i decided to head over to the corner store.

there was a stand full of sunglasses that i of course had to look through…

and these are what i found:

aren’t they awesome???  my god.  i thought they were bad as is….and then i discovered they did tricks.  take a look lol


I DIED!!!  i mean why on earth do you need glasses like this?  why??!?!?!?

i was laughing so hard, that the guy who owned the variety store couldn’t help but start laughing himself lol
we sat there for a few minutes just laughing. (although i am pretty sure he was laughing at what the flourescent lighting did to my hair!)
sooooo funny.

My friend tried to talk me in to buying them.  I am kicking myself in the ass for not getting them now.  I just love them.  Maybe i can get my friend to buy them for me…

Anyways i couldn’t leave the store empty handed…so i ended up buying these babies.  Not as bad…right?

I am still laughing.

summer lovin’

the problem with summer is that i dread being indoors.
when i am at work and look outside my window – i feel sad that i am trapped inside when there is a whole day out there that i could be enjoying.

as i was driving home yesterday, i was thinking about everything that i needed to do…and of course all of it was indoors.
(except for walking the puppy of course)

then i had a bit of a light bulb moment!

it was my gym day yesterday.  i was feeling uneasy about it as i was heading home.  going somewhere that would leave me stuck in doors when it was just so gorgeous outside!  i was itching like crazy to be outside!!!!!
the humidity finally died down and there was a beautiful breeze coming off of the lake.

soooooooo i said to myself…self – you just bought yourself a bike!
why do a half hour of cardio at the gym when you can get outdoors and work out???
i am so smart sometimes!!

and so i did just that.

i went out biking for well over an hour.
it was beautiful.

i went on the water front trails and discovered parts of my city i have never seen!!!
the water was bright blue/green and there were people everywhere on blankets enjoying the day.
i am so blessed to live in such a beautiful city.

i almost wished i had my camera…but yesterdays adventure was more about getting a work out than stopping to smell the roses.

it was hard work – i won’t lie.  but it was good work…fun work.

i eventually got off of the trail because i was curious to see how far i had gone.
when i got on the main road and saw where i was i couldn’t believe it.
this bee can travel!!!!!

i could have kept going…in fact i almost did…
i had the energy.
but – i was so excited about how far i had gone i didn’t take in to consideration that i still had to get home.
so i turned around
thank god.

by the time i got home i was sore and exhausted – and sweaty and outta breath
it was AWESOME!

i discovered a lot of things – like i said…new parts of my city that i never even knew existed…
i discovered that it’s best to wear sunglasses and keep your mouth closed at ALL times lol – damn bugs!
and when a dragonfly is flying right at you and you are going at warp speed, it is in the best interest of all those involved to duck!!
and to my complete surprise…body parts that have never ever hurt before – were and are hurting.
parts that shouldn’t hurt
lets just say it is bike seat related
🙂

i had a great time.  it was a thousand times better than going to the gym.
the time flew by…and it really didn’t feel like exercise at all.

i will be doing this more often – take advantage of the wonderful weather while it’s here

i did it!

today was the day…

bike riding day 🙂

i wasn’t sure if i wanted to go…i managed to burn myself to a complete crisp yesterday.
i dunno what kind of Greek i am…
but my poor body is so sore
i wasn’t sun kissed…i was punched in the face.
one hour – and my poor belly is in complete pain

anyways…it was a hot humid day in the city…but that didn’t stop me.

i got on the bike and was a little scared…the first 5-10 minutes were a little frightening…it has been 20 years you know
but…after that…i was in love!!!!!
i remembered in that moment, the freedom i used to feel on a bike…
the breeze cooling me down…the racing heart
it was awesome.
i didn’t fall, get hit by a random car…die. lol

i broke out in a lovely sweat…and i realized today how much working out has increased my stamina
i could have kept going
but i didn’t want to push it or get ahead of myself.

weather permitting…i will be on that bike again tomorrow

quiet side streets and trails aren’t scary at all…

i feel like a new woman 🙂

i think it’s time to celebrate.  i am off tonight for a good ol’ time
i am way over due

hope your weekend was as perfect as mine.

facing my fears – part one

Have i ever started off a blog with a quote?  well i am now.  i read this the other day and it really spoke to me…

So…you are all very well aware of my fears – since i have blogged about them recently 🙂

what does someone do when they have such an intense, real, panicky fear of getting on a bike???

well if you are the bee….you buy a bike.

Please meet the bike that is still nameless.  i am still working on her name: (i am open to suggestions)

she is nothing special…not expensive or overly fancy.  she is simple and yet beautiful…just like moi
lol

what inspired this?  honestly….this blog.

i realized how very afraid i was of getting on a bike, that i thought the only logical thing to do was face my fear head on.
i got sad thinking of all the things i could potentially be missing out on…and so i made the decision that it had to stop.

so it starts with the bike.  once i have let go of the extreme fear of the bike…maybe the running will come next?
who knows…and really…who cares! the point is I HAVE A BIKE!!!!!!

weather permitting i will be spending alot of time with her this weekend 🙂

i even bought a helmet.  i almost peed myself from laughing so hard, but lets face it…i look good in anything
LOL

i was talking to some people who were telling me that no, helmets are not law for adults, but i do require a bell or a horn…even for the trails.
how is an average non biker chick like me supposed to know these things???  i guess i will have to google my city and it’s bike laws to get the 411.

wish me luck.  if it all works in my favour i will fill you in on my first real bike ride.

maybe one day soon i will have a “part two” of facing my fears…maybe 🙂

i need some new music for my ipod.
this from a girl who has thousands upon thousands of mp3’s on an external drive…

but i do.  i need some new fresh music….well at least new and fresh to me

currently there are three songs that get me through at the gym – well there are more than 3 songs i listen to but these 3 are my favourite.
they make me happy and pump me full of energy
but lets face it…i want more
i always want more!!!

right now i am in love with:

A Kiss With a Fist is Better than None by Florence and the Machine.
a very inappropriate song (just read the lyrics) but hey – it does the job and makes me grin.  i am not too sure what that says about me – but whatever!

Rumour Has It by Adele.  if you can sit still through this song you have a serious problem.
this song makes me deliriously happy and makes me look like an idiot while i am doing my cardio.  i don’t care.  and you know why?  i love Adele.  she makes me happy…she turns me into a crazy cardio fool.

Gonna Get Over You – Sara Bareilles.  hello – need i say more?  i could be in the most miserable mood and as soon as i hear the first note to this song…my world is all rainbows, sunshine  and kittens.  again, i look like an idiot – but i don’t care.  and you know why?  cause i love her.  big love.  Sara contributes to my good health and weight loss insanity.

these songs rock my socks in a huge way.

i am going to spend some time filling up my ipod with some ear candy – to pump myself up for this Couch to 5K training.

now, just what days am i able to do it? at first it looks like i don’t even need 15 minutes (remember my dream????)
